Boxing Star Inspires Females at Lancaster YMCA

UntitledStacey Copeland, one of Britain’s most successful female boxers, came to inspire and motive women and girls from the Sportivate project at Lancaster YMCA. Stacey’s visit had a huge impact on the young people involved, Farrah (16 year old boxer – second from right) told Stacey, “It had made her want to work really hard to win a belt like hers!” (The ABA title belt) – “She has every chance of doing just that!” Stacy replied.

 Stacey (pictured) added by saying:

“Thank you very much for making me so welcome at your centre last week, it truly was an absolute pleasure to meet everybody and spend time with everyone”!

Terry Mcloughlin, Head Coach at Lancaster YMCA said:

“Working with Stacey is a fantastic opportunity for me and for the females training here.”

Terry added:

“This comes at a fantastic time for Lancaster YMCA, with the NCS starting last week. The National Citizen Service (NCS) is for Years 11 and 12 which is delivered over 4 weeks in the summer holidays. We have more women attending our sessions every week and a lot of this follows on from the support received from Sportivate and Stacey’s visit. Stacey had time for everyone and its great to see the impact she has left us with. Every time I mention her name the girls light up with enthusiasm. Thank you Stacey.”

2Stacey also visited coaches Paul Jefferies and Arran Moore who lead training sessions at Lancaster YMCA. Sessions take place on Tuesdays at 6pm (Mixed group) and Saturday mornings at 10am (Boot Camp Style Boxing Sessi

on). Boxclever, as we like to call it, is a great way to meet people and become healthier.

We have been running women’s-only training sessions for anyone who wants to train at their own level but might be uncomfortable to take part in a mixed session.

The open sessions for females under 25 take place on Wednesday at 6pm and are free to attend

Mixed sessions are Tuesday at 6pm and a Saturday morning wake up boxing boot camp at a cost of £3.

We have another two visits planned with Stacey at Lancaster YMCA. The girls say they can’t wait to see her again, such was the connection she made with the group! Stacey is 100% committed to inspiring the next generation. Thank you Stacey!
